Camping

The kids and I had a GREAT time camping this weekend. Keith was working so I went solo with the kids. We were suppose to be camping with AHG this weekend but that got postponed.  We have been planning for months so I couldn't let down the kids. So we went anyway!

I had taken Friday off so we headed out after lunch. We set up camp and the kids rode their scooters. We found a geocache on a trail. We played at the park. Jacob and I almost ran out of matches trying to get the fire going for dinner.  I had prepared hamburger patties but 2 out of 4 of them crumbled, so we had tacos and hamburgers for dinner. 

For breakfast Saturday I had prepared some egg and cheese burritos. They were decent. The kids had pop tarts and brownie muffins. 

For lunch we had sandwiches and lunchables- I forgot the hotdogs. The kids ride scooters all day, we found another geocache and a treasure box. A treasure box is a special geocache that requires a little bit of "orienteering". Which is great because we are working on a badge for AHG with orienteering. I've never heard of it before but it was a lot of fun! We also visited both playgrounds again and gathered more firewood. 

We stayed busy most of the weekend but I do wish I had brought the kayaks.   We will have to bring them next time. 

We had a great time and look forward to our next trip!!

CAMP FORKS

The kids and I made camp forks last night. I had bought a wooden dowel for $1.19 and we each took turns sawing it into 5 inch pieces. Then we drilled a hole in one end and sanded the rough edges. Then we took an uncoated hanger and cut it into pieces long enough to roast a hot dog or marshmallow. Then we got glued it into the hole. 

They turned out great and the kids loved using the saw, drill, sand block and hot glue gun. 

They still have to paint their handles but we cannot wait to test them out on a campfire. 

I also made s solar hot dog cooker out of a Pringles can. We set it outside for two hours while we finished up school work. It worked!  I still prefer a campfire hot dog but it did work. 

Family Camping Fall 2014

We finally took the kids camping! We have another AHG campout coming up next weekend and I will not be able to take Jace with me because my husband will be working.  So to make up for it we decided to take the family camping.  It was the boys first time to go tent camping.  It was a quick trip and we stayed less than 24 hours.  However, we had a good time (except for the fishing disaster) and we hope to go again soon!!  I will be taking the older two with me on the AHG campout this weekend.  We will be staying two nights! Hopefully we won't forget anything and hopefully the fishing will go a little better-especially since I am responsible for the fishing badge!!

Anyway, here are a few pictures of our first of hopefully many family camping trips.  This had also been on my list of things to do for years: 34 before 34, 35 before 35, 36 before 36 and 37 before 37....finally can mark it off my list!!!

AHG Spring 2014 Campout

So it's been a long time, AGAIN!! I have a lot of catching up to do.  I will start with our first AHG campout.  It was May 2014.  It was JoAnna's first time tent camping.  We took the 4 man tent, it was just the two of us.  We camped out at someone's lake house property.  It was nice because we had the lake, the woods, exclusion, but we also had the lake house bathrooms, and the screened in porch for food storage.  We went on a hike-which was slightly difficult for my out of shape self.  They had canoes and John boats-it was so much fun!!  JoAnna fell in love with camping!! I am so very excited.  I camped a lot with Girl Scouts growing up and loved it.

Here are a few pictures of our campout.  It was cut short but bad weather.  We had planned on camping out two nights but everyone ended up leaving late on the second night because there was a bad storm coming thru the area.
